Rough Creek Cemetery is found by going about one and a half miles east of Novice on FM road 702, turning south on a dirt road and going 1 mile. Turn right on the first dirt road (which also comes from Novice).  The cemetery is a short distance after this turn and is on the right (north) of this road.

       There are three sections in this cemetery.  The original cemetery was located on the farm of John Ward, who donated land for the cemetery in 1896 (Coleman County deed records - Volume 35, page 365).  The original cemetery had two sections, with a road running east and west dividing these sections.  There are gates into the cemetery at each end of this road.  The oldest section (we have called it section A) lies north of this road, with Section B to the south.  A new section (we have called it Section C) connects to and lies west of Section A.  This land was donated by the children of John Dugan and Mary Lee Barnett in 1983.

       For many years Sam Sprinkles served as caretaker for the cemetery association and was able to locate, identify, and mark many unknown graves.  These graves are marked with Stevens Funeral Home markers set in a square cement base, which we have noted as '(FHM in cement)'.  Also marked are lots that have been reserved for future use by various families.  Sam was honored for his service by the cemetery association in 1984.

       The cemetery is well kept, with a chain link fence surrounding the entire cemetery.  Rows are well laid out, but some do not line up well.  Rows were read in a snake fashion.  Roads and curbings have been ignored.  Some family lots have been separated by this method of reading.
