STEWARDSON CEMETERY, COLEMAN COUNTY, TEXAS

The Stewardson Cemetery is located about 10 miles south of Santa Anna and one mile east of Texas State Highway 283.  It is reached by driving east on a dirt lane from 283, then turning south.

John Stewardson & W. B. Harper platted the cemetery at the death of two year old Lilly Harper, granddaughter of John Stewardson.  The cemetery consists of 2 acres of land.  There are at least 8 unknown graves, one being a rock structure built above the ground.  Rocks mark the graves of several children who died of a fever, who were passing through the area on a wagon train.

The cemetery is well kept and fenced.  Reading was done by rows in a snake like manner, ending at the end of one row and beginning at the same end of the next row.  Some family lots may have been separated by this method of reading.  Reading began on the east side.
