      Eliza Buck received a state land grant from Governor O. M. Roberts for 160 acres of land in 1873.  The land was located 10 ¼ miles north of Coleman and has been known as the E. J. Buck place since the beginning of the twentieth century.

     Emmitt J. Buck, son of Eliza, rode the Chisholm Trail from Victoria County to the state of Kansas in earlier days.  He brought his bride, Ada Reeves, to Eliza's place in 1880.  They lived in a log cabin on the 160 acres, and to this union, eight children were born:

     (1) Ida, married Edgar Manning, their children were Aubrey, Kenneth, Mervin, Eleanor, and Bill Burton;

     (2) Arthur, married Stella Clark, had one child, Alene (see Thomas Jefferson Buck);

     (3) Austin, married Allie Chitty and their children were Ila (see Gordon Family), Leo, Evelyn, Doris, Gerald and
Dorothy;

     (4) May married Estes Woodard and their children were Louise, Donald, E. J., Louie M., Randle Clyde, Truman Glen, Thad Odeell, Wanda Lou and Rita Joyce (see Louis Woodard);

     (5) Clyde V. never married;

     (6) Ethel married Henry Birdwell, son of Ernest Aaron and Louella Birdwell, (see J. A. Mitchell), and their children were Eldon, Weldon, Ouida, Imogene, Alice Mae (died in October 1983), Buck, Steve and Charles;

     (7) Bryan married Lucille Mitchell, their children were Mildred Lucille, Maryelle and Mitchell (Buddy) Bryan (see J. A. Mitchell);

     (8) Bland married Katherine O'Shea and they had one child, Mary Katherine.

     Eliza Buck, 1830-1916; E.J. Buck, 1854-1921; Ada E. Buck, 1862-1934; and Clyde Buck, 1889-1967, all buried in Coleman.  None of the eight children of Emmitt and Ada Buck are living.
