Al (Isom Alfred), the only son of Isom Alfred and Stella Chambers, born February, 1927, served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.  He attended Daniel Baker College and Brownwood Commercial College.  Sammie, youngest child of Sam and Ruby Smith, was born September 1928, and attended Howard Payne College.  She married Alfred (Al) Chambers in November 1948 in Brownwood.  Both Al and Sammie were raised in Brownwood, attended Brownwood schools and graduated from Brownwood High School.  They have four children:

     (1) Alfreda Lynn, born January, 1950, graduated from Coleman High School in 1968, attended Tarleton College in Stephenville, married Charles Glenn Shepard from Ballinger in August, 1970.  They have two daughters, both born in Coleman, Jodie Maurine, December 1975, and Mikayla Joylynn, May 1978.  They now live in Snyder.

     (2) Phillip Irvin, November 1951, graduated from Coleman High School in 1970, attended Abilene Commercial College, served in the Coleman Unit of the National Guard for six years, married Judy Ann Wright from Santa Anna in September 1973.  They have three children; Aimee Lynn, Randall Alfred and James Doyle, and now live in Hobbs.

     (3) Donna Denise, June, 1953, graduated from Coleman High School in 1971, and from Angelo State University in 1975, married Rodney Lynn Bailey from San Angelo in November 1973.  They have two children, Rebecca Racquet and Christopher Doyle, and now live in Snyder.

     (4) Tena Diane, September 1958, graduated from Coleman High School in 1977, attended San Angelo University, married Terry Lynn Nabors of DeLeon in May 1980.  They have a son, Michael Clynt, and now live in San Angelo.

Alfred, Sammie and their four children moved to Coleman from Colorado City in December, 1958. Alfred was employed by the Department of Public Safety of Texas as a Highway Patrolman.  He served Coleman County in this capacity from 1958-1976.  During these years, Sammie was employed by the J. C. Penney Co. for two years, C. R. Anthony for two years, and Bowen Drug Store as a cosmetologist for nine years.  In 1976, Alfred was transferred to Abilene, where he was a trooper assigned to the main office.  He retired from the D. P. S. in December 1981.  Alfred and Sammie then moved back to Coleman, where they had kept their home.

Alfred went to work as a car parts salesman at Coleman Automotive.  Sammie started work at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital, where she is still employed.  Alfred left the automotive shop when he was appointed temporary Municipal Judge in September 1982, filling in for Judge R. C. Straughan, who retired, due to poor health, in January 1983, and Alfred filled his unexpired term.  He was appointed Municipal Judge of Coleman in April, 1983, and is currently serving in that capacity.

Al and Sammie joined the First Baptist Church of Coleman in 1959.  Al serves as a deacon and both are members of the choir.  Al is a member of the Evening Lions Club, serving as president at this time.
