Porter Clark came to Coleman
County with his twin brother, Clay before
1900. He lived with the J. S.
Laughlin family for a while, Mrs. Laughlin
was his sister (see Laughlin).
Porter married Clara Ann Cupps September
4, 1910 (see Reed Vance Cupps). They
had 2 children: Edith Olive, born August
13, 1911 and Weldon Wilson, September 21,
1913. The family lived about 6 miles
south of Santa Anna, on the Trickham road,
just across the road from the present
location of the Cleveland Church of
Christ. He went to work at the Gas
Lease, about 3 miles south of Santa Anna,
in 1919, working there for 18 years.
On September 1, 1928, Edith married Jay B.
Williams. Another couple, Eula Baugh
and Clyde Bingham were married at the same
time. The two couples and Weldon met
the mailman, who was also a Church of
Christ preacher. They all went to
the bridge over the river south of Whon;
the two couples were married on the
bridge. Weldon Clark was a witness.
They had four children: Helen Annel, born
December 7, 1929, at Santa Anna; Dorothy
Edith, October 8, 1931, at Turkey;
Winiford Winston, October 23, 1936, Santa
Anna; and Jay Bennie, April 12, 1947, at
Delano, California.
Weldon Clark
attended Santa Anna High School and
graduated from Tarleton College in
1934. In 1935, he went to
California. In the spring of 1937,
Edith and Jay and their children went to
California. In the fall of 1937,
Porter and Clara moved to
California. Weldon Wilson Clark
married in California, Irene May Mead,
June 18, 1938. They had four
children: Carolyn Louise, born September
24, 1940; Westly Wayne, April 8, 1943;
Joel
David, January 31, 1946; and Clara
Margaret, December 8, 1947.
Porter died
October 31, 1952, and Clara Ann (Cupps)
Clark died November 27, 1971.
