Potters' Field

Paducah, Texas

A potters' field is a public burial place for unknown persons, criminals and paupers. It's thought to have gotten its name from being clay-rich and bought from potters because it was cheap - no one wanted farm in clay. It may also be a reference to the first coffins being pots made from clay.

I don't have an exact location for this cemetery. It's "east of town near the landfill", which is a horrible description. Could a local help us out?

There are only two markers in this cemetery and I believe the rest of the information is from Norris Funeral Home records.
