Mr. Spencer Johnston Killed in Automobile Accident

Mr. Spencer Johnston, a prominent resident of the Briggs section, was so severely injured in an automobile accident at the intersection of highways 66 and 29 in Burnet, about sundown last Saturday, October 17th, that he died the next day.  Mrs. Johnston also suffered injuries, but it is thought that she will recover.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnston had been in Burnet for some time, the former being under treatment of Dr. P. N. Cheatham.  He had rapidly improved in health and he and Mrs. Johnston had intended to return to their home on Monday following the fatal accident.  They were taking a late afternoon stroll along the highway when the collision occurred.  The impact of the cars threw one of them against Mr. Johnston and the other against his wife.  It is reported that the last words uttered by Mr. Johnston was a remark to his wife that it looked like the two cars were going to hit.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Johnston were given emergency treatment and taken at once to the Rollins-Brook Hospital in Lampasas by the Burnet Furniture Co. ambulance.  It was feared from the first that Mr. Johnston, who suffered severe head injuries, could not recover and death came to him Sunday afternoon.  The body was interred Monday in the Briggs cemetery.

Mr. Johnston is reported to have been a splendid citizen in every respect and his tragic death is regretted by many friends.

So far as the Bulletin is able to recall, Mr. Johnston's was the first death from an automobile accident ever to occur within the corporate limits of the town of Burnet.

[Transcriber's note:  Texas death certificate information gives burial place as Sulphur, Oklahoma.  His occupation was listed as rancher; his wife was Pearl.]
