Hugh M. Murphy

Brother Hugh M. Murphy was born near Grandbury, Texas, in Hood County, on June 7, 1850, and when he was very young, his father and mother moved to Burnet County, and settled on the Gabriel, some four or five miles east of Lake Victor.

Brother Murphy attended the old Bethel School, and as a young boy, he was a good athlete, excelling in several different sports.

On Wednesday, Sept 1, 1869, Brother Murphy was united in marriage to Miss Ollivia Prentice, and to this union were born five children, two boys and three girls.

Brother Murphy was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on January 7, 1882.  He was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on March 4, 1882, and was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on April 1, 1882, in Robert E. Lee Lodge No. 431 A.F. & A.M., located at Strickland, in Burnet County, Texas.

Brother Murphy served as Worshipful Master of Robert E. Lee Lodge No. 431 for the years 1887-1888
