Trying to locate WILBURN relatives that settled in Red River County, Tx. We believe our g-g-grandfather had siblings/cousins that settled there. Our g-g-grandfathers name was Richard Brown Wilburn. He was born in Ala in 1840 and his family migrated to Tx around 1845. His parents name were Richard, died DeWitt County abt 1856, and Permelia Wilburn. Our g-g-grandfather was a Tx Ranger and fought in the Cortinas War. He was also a Captain in the CSA and fought in the last battle of the civil war at Palmitto Ranch in the valley. After the war he trail boss driving cattle to Kansas. Eventually he brought over 1140 acres of land in Atascosa County from the Jose Antonio Navarro family for farming and operation of a Cotton Gin. Some of his siblings names are: Andrew, George, John L., Ebenezer, Sara Phillips, Martha Cheatham, Elizabeth P. McNeill, Max, Thomas, and Anderson. His mother (Permelia) was part Cherokee or Choctaw Indian. We also understand that she was in some way related to the Chisholms, or Chisums of the famous trail route. Richard Brown Wilburn died in the spring of 1916 and is buried in the Willborn Family Cemetery in Poteet, Tx.

I am researching the family of Elias B. BLAIR born Feb 1840 in TX. His family lived in Red River Co. during the Confererate years. Elias joined Col. Alexander's Regiment, Company K under Captain Titus. He served about four years. I got this information from his Confederate Soldier's Pension Application filed in Brown County. He lived in May Texas at the time he applied. He was my husband's great-grandfather. E. Brantley and A.A. Wagley were witnesses for Elias. They were both neighbors in Red River County. One stated that he knew him from an infant so I assume he was born in that county.
